The Vision
ZMN Load is a platform that conveniently connects shippers with the nearest available truckers for heavy load shipments. By providing complete transparency and a robust tracking feature, the app enables shippers to manage their logistics without hassle and with utmost satisfaction.
Technical Challenges & Strategic Solutions
1. Location Accuracy
Problem: Standard mobile GPS often returns a “circle of uncertainty.” This occasionally showed users on the wrong side of a road, leading to massive confusion during pick-ups.
Solution: We implemented a custom location accuracy check. If the accuracy reading was beyond a specific threshold, the system discarded that coordinate and requested a new, more precise location point.
2. Drawing Precise User Paths
Problem: Raw GPS points rarely form a straight line, even on straight highways. Drawing these directly on a map resulted in “jagged” and unprofessional-looking trip routes.
Solution: We leveraged the Google Roads API. By passing saved coordinates to this API, we received a cleaned-up list of points snapped exactly to the road grid, resulting in pixel-perfect trip visualization.
3. Optimizing API Filter Costs
Problem: Initially, real-time filtering logic was running directly against Google APIs on every admin refresh. This resulted in a bill of $1500 USD within just 2 days.
Solution: We moved the logic to the mobile application side and cached the resulting data in our own database. This architectural shift not only eliminated the massive API costs but also dramatically increased page loading speeds for admins.
